The bust of a middle-aged man in an oval turned half to the left, his hair gathered at the nape, expressive eyes, and big nose. He is dressed in late 18th century fashion; wearing a white shirt with lace jabot, dark broad tie, high collared coat with double buttoning. Below the oval, in the middle the signature reads: 'Dessine et grave par A. Bartsch. 1794.', the title underneath it reads: 'JEAN BARON DE KNESEVICH, / Colonel commandant Le Corps franc imp. / & roy. de Wurmser.'.
Karlo Ivan Knezevic is one of the four sons of Baron Martin Knezevic; all four had devoted themselves to military careers and had achieved high ranks.
Knight Adam Bartsch (Vienna, 1757 - 1821), copperplate engraver, curator of the Royal Court Library, is the founder of the science of graphic arts, from 1803 to 1821 he had published the 21 volumes of his 'Le Peintre-Graveur' (Painter - Engraver), and in 1821 the 'Kupferstichkunde' (The Art of Engraving).
Bought in 1900 from Emil Laszowski in Zagreb.
