Relief with the figure of St Martin


Senj 14th century Limestone, carved 76 x 36 x 28 cm The figure of St Martin in a bishop's robe holding a book in his hand is carved in relief on the front side of a Roman altar. The relief was built into the wall around St Martin's church in Senj. On both sides of the upper part of the figure the carved glagolitic inscription reads: SVETI MARTIN (Saint Martin). Donated in 1905 by Konrad Zimpermann, mayor of Senj. A. Nazor, Zagreb riznica glagoljice, (exhibition catalogue), Zagreb, 1978, page 15.
