Console


Dol, otok Hvar 14th century limestone, carved 17 x 38 x 12.5 cm A stone console with a decoration and an inscription in Latin is the only stone monument in the Collection from Dalmatia. The decoration, the style of the acanthus leafs and the inscription on the outer side of the console lead us to conclude that the decoration and the inscription were not made at the same time. The first line of the inscription is almost illegible. SSVE....S...R.VENI.VC.ORARE .M.M.TO // NOSTRI. Donated to the Museum around 1870; inventoried in the Collection of Antiquities in 1876. J.
